[ARCHIVED] New Seawall Post and Railing Project Completed

ReIntroducing RIOC Capital Projects Seawall

On Monday, September 9th, RIOC officially declared the Seawall Railing Replacement Project completed. The project, which was approved by the RIOC board back in August 2017, called for the installation of 1,658 new railings and 829 new posts. The posts that were not replaced were carefully restored by RIOC contractors. The railing-and-post system runs almost all the entire shoreline of Roosevelt Island and measures approximately 3.7 miles in length. The previous seawall railings and posts were in various stages of disrepair and discoloration and were in desperate need of replacement. The new railing system consists of vertical independent panels in addition to new, precast posts. This design not only provides a secure, safe environment but also provides a level of sophistication to the Roosevelt Island seawall that residents and visitors can enjoy for years to come.
