This past weekend, a Public Safety Department Officer was allegedly assaulted by an individual, while issuing a parking citation. That individual was subsequently arrested and charged with assault. RIOC takes these matters very seriously as assaulting a peace officer during the course of performing a duty is a felony that is punishable up to 7 years in prison. Roosevelt Island has become one of the safest neighborhoods in New York City, due in large part to the commitment and dedication of our Public Safety peace officers who keep the community and visitors safe.
We have trained our officers to always display the utmost respect for our residents and visitors. We request that same level of respect in return.
As a reminder, if you believe there is a misunderstanding between you and a member of PSD or if you believe you are being treated unfairly, please call PSD directly at 212-832-4545 and ask to speak to a supervisor.
