The first official Re-Introducing RIOC event on Thursday, January 9, 2020 focused on the island's transportation concerns. Shelton Haynes, RIOC's COO, along with Cy Opperman and Joe Marino of RIOC's Transportation Department kicked off the event to a standing-room only crowd at the Roosevelt Island Senior Center. For more than an hour, Mr. Haynes fielded a variety of questions ranging from concerns about strollers blocking bus aisles, rude passengers who refuse to give up their seats to the elderly and disabled and frequency of service.
A quick survey about transportation concerns was handed out to the seniors and more than a dozen were handed in immediately. RIOC staff is in the process of compiling this feedback and will report back on their findings in the near future.
