Roosevelt Islanders Are SEW Creative!

20200324_173359Thank you to all of the Roosevelt Island residents who decided to do a great deed for RIOC’s front line personnel. Over the past several days, several of you decided to put your sewing skills to work to ensure that our Public Safety Officers, Bus Drivers, Grounds Keepers and Maintenance staff have masks despite the shortage of equipment they face. We’ll be sure to feature our personnel wearing the masks in future updates, but for now, thank you to Karen Laurence, Chistina Delfico, Kristi Towey, Margie Smith, Lisa Fernandez, Judy Berdy, Elaine Kranich, Gloria Herman, Catherine Kleszczewski, Marie Claude Daniel, Vesna Djuric, Lauren Blankstein, Karen Lee, Marie Luarca-Reyes, Niti Parikh and many others!

Farmer’s Market WILL Be Open This Saturday, March 28, 2020

Although the Roosevelt Farmer’s Market will take place this Saturday, we will be observing a few changes on site.

  • No one will be allowed to shop before 7:00 AM
  • People will have to line up and must observe proper social distancing while shopping.
  • 7:00 AM until 8:00 AM will be for Seniors Only. All seniors must bring an ID card to prove their age.
  • 8:00 AM – The market will be open to everyone but proper social distance spaces will be enforced by PSD.

Soccer Fields Closed

In keeping with Governor Cuomo’s mandate to prevent people from playing contact sports that violate social distancing guidelines, RIOC has decided to close McManus Field and Firefighters Field until further notice. Residents can still take advantage of our parks at the northern and southern ends of the island as well as our wonderful promenades at the eastern and western shores of the island.

Playgrounds Remain Open – For Now

Although the playgrounds may be open, RIOC does not have the capacity to properly sanitize the equipment after each use. The playgrounds will remain open as long as people practice social distancing.

Transportation Updates

Red Buses will continue to run on a Weekend Schedule until further notice.
