[ARCHIVED] Fall soccer league registration now open

The autumn wind forever blows futbol fever across Roosevelt Island.

More commonly known as soccer, enthusiasm for this fall’s youth league is gusting to record levels; and today the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation released the schedule and other pertinent program details for the league which is relocating to Firefighter’s and Capobianco fields from the Octagon Field this season.

This year’s season will begin September 29 and conclude November 17 with championship games. The league will feature between four teams each in the following age divisions:
• Kinderkickers (5-6-year-olds)
• Minors (7 – 8-year-olds)
• Sophomores (9-10-year-olds)
• Juniors (11-13-year-olds)
• Seniors (14-18-year-olds)

The free program is open to all resident youth of Roosevelt Island.

Go to https://rioc.ny.gov/…/Roosevelt-Island-Fall-Youth-Soccer-Re… to sign-up. Registration opens Friday September 14, and tryouts will be September 29. Parents interested in volunteer coaching are encouraged to email the program at RIYouthSoccer@rioc.ny.gov.

Practices will be held weeknights, Tuesdays and Fridays from 6 p.m. – 8:45 p.m. and games will be Saturdays from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Due to the recent closure of Octagon Field, for field renovations, all practices and games will be held at Capobianco and Firefighter’s fields.
