Dear Roosevelt Island Community: There are two upcoming projects to repair sidewalks and roads on the west side beginning Monday, May 11, that will temporarily impact parking in those areas: Sidewalk Expansion Along West Road – In late 2025, RIOC began work to expand the sidewalk adjacent to the promenade on West Road to improve Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. Beginning Monday, May 11, work will resume to complete the project, which will impact parking from 475 Main Street to 455 Main Street. The work will be performed in two phases: Phase 1 will limit parking from 475 to 465 Main Street, and Phase 2 will limit parking from 465 to 455 Main Street. PSD will post signs in the affected areas in advance of the work to notify residents of the restrictions. Prior to the start of work, on May 5, shrubs along the sidewalk will be removed to accommodate its expansion. Replacement shrubs will then be replanted after the work is completed. In addition to a new sidewalk, the project will also add new bollard lighting to the walkway. The project is expected to be completed by August. Street Repair on West Main Street Adjacent to Tramway Plaza – Beginning Monday, May 18, RIOC will perform asphalt paving and install a new curb along West Main Street adjacent to Tramway Plaza. PSD will post signs in the affected area in advance of the work to notify residents of the parking restrictions. This work is expected to be completed by mid-June. Thank you for your cooperation as we work to complete these necessary upgrades. Additional communications regarding both projects will be shared in the future. Sincerely, RIOC Maintenance
